Frost Nip Dinner Plate Dahlia is a seductively beautiful flower, with wide salmon-pink petals that seem to have been touched with frost. The double dinner plate blooms measure ten inches across and emerge with dominant white tips, fully opening into glorious color in mid-to-late summer. Frost Nip Dinner Plate Dahlia prefers sunny sites and rich soils and makes an excellent cut flower.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information
Stunning Dahlias have taken the gardening world by storm. They’re available in a broad range of flower forms, with colors ranging from soft pastels to vivid hues to deep rich shades, and they’re a must-have for cut flower bouquets. Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
