Foxglove brightens up the shade garden with its towering blossoms
A native wildflower in England, Foxgloves, or Digitalis, love to grow at the edge of woodlands or other semi-shaded spots with good rich soil. As a biennial plant, its low rosette of velvety foliage decorates the garden in the first year, and its tall peachy-pink flower spikes emerge in its second year. Funnel-shaped flowers open slowly from the bottom of the stem first, completely surrounding the stem and providing an incredible source of nectar and pollen for bees in particular. It’s a classic flower for shade gardens in a warm color that harmonizes nicely with any color scheme. (Digitalis purpurea)
