USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

(36-48" tall) The vivid colors of favorite summertime treats were the inspiration for our Popsicle Dahlia Collection. 'Thomas Edison' Dinner Plate Dahlia's electric purple flowers are sure to dazzle and delight. The tangerine-orange flowers of 'Sylvia' Ball Dahlia are a study in symmetry and form with their perfectly layered, rolled petals. Measuring 12-14" across, 'Emory Paul' Dinner Plate Dahlia's exuberant pink flowers are an exclamation point for your garden. The 4", powder-puff blooms of 'Floorinoor' Anemone Dahlia pair vibrant fuchsia petals with a feathered orange center. Named for the Dutch Royal Family, 'Prince of Orange' Semi Dinner Plate Dahlias are 4-6" across in glowing shades of orange. Dahlias are deer-resistant and attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Although grown as an annual in zones 3-7, you can dig up Dahlia tubers at the end of the season, store them indoors, and replant in spring, making them a wise investment.

Our Popsicle Dahlia Collection is roughly 3' x 5' if planted together and contains 15 plants:
